Whole Green Peas

The texture of the split peas is rather soft, while their flavor is mild and can be freely used as a substitute for the fresh peas. One of the most common ways of preparing the whole green peas is cooking them as a puree and then mashing them till you get a thick porridge. During the process of cooking peas usually break down so are a great choice for wholesome, thick soups. Perfect choice for vegans too since they can be used to make some decadent creamy soups without using any dairy products! They can be eaten as snacks as well. Did you know that the history of these dates some 10,000 years ago, with their origin somewhere in the Middle East where soon afterwards they have spread further to the Mediterranean, India and China? And another fun fact! Cultivating peas is how England was saved from the terrible famine in 1555.
