Chickpeas
They are protein-rich seeds and are considered to be one of the earliest legumes that have been cultivated and have the reputation of one of the most popular dish among vegetarians in the UK, India, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Our chickpeas varieties on sale range from Kabuli, Desi Chickpeas to the Split Desi peas.
We have 3 different types of the Kabuli chickpeas – the 8mm, 9mm and 10mm Kabuli chickpeas. All these usually have a pale yellow color and are typically used in stews, soups and salads. Have a high content of fats and are rich in iron, protein, calcium and the B vitamins.
The Desi chickpeas, also known as the Bengal gram, can be from light to dark brown in color, have a thick seed coat and higher content of fiber than the Kabuli. This means that their glycemic index is very low and therefore are suitable for people suffering from blood sugar problems. Often used for the making of curries
We also have the Split desi chickpeas, which are also known as Chana dal and are produced by splitting the desi chickpeas and removing their skin.
Another thing we reckon is worth mentioning is that due to the high content of protein, chickpeas are also often used as animal feed.
